Question:

Celica with a 350 engine?

I have a 2001 Toyota Celica GT. Im just wondering how would it look if I put a chev 350 engine in it?? I know its a rice burner and putting a muscle car engine it wouldnt seem to bright. Please give some feedback

Answer:

Anything is possible, But why, If you have a deep pocket ( you will have to), it cuold be done. But, you could never get it to pass an emission inspection, in many states it is not allowed. If you want more power spend your money on a turbo build up and a quality shop to do it right. you would be amazed at the power available from a 4cyl engine. While it may not have that big V-8 rumble and gut wrenching torque, a front engine car that size would be little fun to drive except down the 1/4 mile.
It won't fit. The suspension won't hold it. The car is front drive and the trans won't bolt up. You would have to convert to real wheel drive. Not feasable $ wise. I have seen them in older rear wheel drive cars like an old datsun Z car.
That Japanese piece of Crap's body and suspension system was designed by Americans in Toyota's California Studio. Ignorant comments should be left in your little world, A closed mind is just like a closed book.Just a block of wood. I believe the questioner wanted some decent feedback. Their was a an article that I read once. It was a third generation RX-7 eqiupped with a LS1 V8. Granted that worked because the RX-7 was RWD. The car performed great. Fast and handled pretty decently even with the extra front heavy bias. Put that LS1 powerd RX7 against any other domestic running that same powerplant.and the RX-7 would kick some major ***.why because the same powerplant with a superior chasis. Most cars running V8's are bulky.fast in a straight line, but pair it with a modern chasis, light and great handling.then you can really see how the LS1 performs. That is if you got money and want something really different. But I agree that the 350 would be extremely difficult to bolt up to the Celica. I am talking you have some major money and tech knowledge to custom fab a lot of stuff. The muslce car engines are a different breed from modern high reviving 4 cyl engines. V8s offer torque, but if you have ever driven highly modified 4 cyls. Then you would see that you can get a lot of power from your Celica GT equally or even rivaling the power of the old school V8 engines. If you built your car's suspesion and engine to handle boost turbo, then your car would probably spank most old school cars on the racetrack. Try this if you have the money. Have your engine totally built for turbo. Meaning titanium parts for the head, aluminum pistons, light and forged connecting rods, stronger studs and bolts, balance the engine and turbo it and tune it. That engine should be capable of putting generating well over 300 plus h.p. To the wheels. Light bodys do not need that much power to make them fly rings around other cars. Even the old muscle cars.
