I know about the hip hop/rap/funk elements. But when you listen to Korn's original album and compare it to grunge records, outside of the funk elements, its very similar. It seems to me that when you strip away the hip hop/rap/funk elements of nu metal what you get is grunge.
You don't need to insult a musical genre. Metal is not all about hate and demons. I think your thinking of modern poser metal like Slipknot and Korn. Iron Maiden wrote songs about Fantasy and the effects of war. Almost all power metal is about fantasy. Quit being a jerk. Metal is awesome. And it sure is cooler than you are, you're probobly some jerk.
You're discarding the entire genre because of the bullsh** lyrics some bands write. That just shows that you're an idiot and couldn't be bothered listening to metal properly. All metal bands members play an instrument, so they know something about music. Just because some singers are too inarticulate to write good lyrics doesn't mean they can't play guitar brilliantly. Yeah, metal is about hate and demons... Not all metal. You got to look at genres. Power metal is about fantasy lyrics and a lot of times are happy...sometimes about unifying. Some bands like Opeth go into philosophy and stuff. Other bands discuss warfare...many thrash metal bands in general. Iron Maiden tends to discuss historical events at times...especially Run to the Hills and The Trooper. Don't make assumptions on genres. Go deep into genres and you'll find something listenable.
