Question:

Do Timbren suspension enhancement systems act as a weight distributing hitch?

I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe, and the max towing weight w/out a weight distributing hitch is 2000 lbs, and with one it is 5500 lbs. So would timbrens increase my max towing weight like a weight distributing hitch would? Also, do timbrens increase my spring capacity? Any help would be great.

Answer:

no they do not. they will increase your towing weight, marginally, compared to weight distributing systems . most timbrens will increase spring capacity, which will help with heavy trailers, but the only way to transfer some trailer weight onto the front axle is with a distributing hitch
No, they do not act as a weight distribution system. A weight distribution system uses those heavy spring bars to project some of the vertical load on the hitch further up the frame of the vehicle. A set of Timbren springs adds two more suspension contact points on the rear axle to spread the weight across the axle. They also act to aid the factory suspension. They will not increase your vehicle's stated towing capacity or spring capacity at all. What they do is share the heavy towing work with the factory suspension which can help keep the vehicle level. If you want to take advantage of the full 5,500 pounds, you will need to use a weight distribution system. Direct from Timbren's FAQ page: Q. Can I haul more weight on my truck if I install Timbren's SES kit? A. You cannot exceed the manufacturer's axle rating or GVW rating of the vehicle. A Timbren suspension enhancement system will greatly enhance the performance of a heavily-loaded vehicle. You can expect the vehicle to have reduced sag and improved roll stability.
