Question:

Does a landlord need to provide a refrigerator?

I am renting an apartment in Pennsylvania and two weeks ago, the refrigerator in our unit stopped working. My husband contacted the landlord, who said the refrigerator is old and the part will take awhile to come in; meanwhile, we have no refrigerator. When dh called again today to let him know that this is becoming a bit long of a wait and was told that in the state of Pa a landlord doesn't have to provide anything so he is being generous by even having it fixed at all.Is this true? I checked our lease but it mentions nothing about appliances, it is mostly focusing on rent due dates and that aspect, nothing regarding appliances.

Answer:

Well, there is no employment record really. Sure, his employer (not employee, an employee is the person that works for someone) has this in their record but it may not follow him anywhere else. Future jobs that he applies for may call his old boss for information and the old boss may tell them about the credit card issue. That is a risk. However, most employers do not give out that kind of information because the risk of law suits. He should be able to find a new job. The employer can choose to report your friend to the police over the fraud but there has to be proof in order for him to be prosecuted.
You guess? Find out. Get the current in the cable, calculate the resistance, and then the voltage drop. You installed it, you should have all the info needed. If it is too high, use a heavier wire.
