Question:

Extremely slow drip in bathroom sink faucet?

My bathroom sink is dripping, I don't even know how I managed to see it because its only dripping maybe once a minute. Both handles are tight. Not sure whats going on with it, and no one in the house knows anything about plumbing. Just need to know maybe a good place to start looking for a problem.

Answer:

more likely hot or cold washer is about to fail. Turn off water to sink remove hot an cold pop tabs unscrew screw an then turn Faucet till the assembly lifts up look at bottom of assembly find washer at bottom remove its screw go to Home depot or lowes an get exact same washer screw everything back an your leak should disappear.
The washer needs to be changed; they're rubber and over time they fail. (Especially if you've been overtightening them!) However, if no one in the house knows anything about plumbing (really?), then you better just pay a plumber. You could do a lot of damage if you try to repair a faucet and don't know what you're doing. Just watch what he's doing so you can do it yourself next time, because it really is a waste. You're probably looking at replacing a 10-cent washer and you're going to pay a plumber at least $50 to do it for you. On second thought, maybe you should try a little harder to find someone who knows something about plumbing. That's an awful lot to pay just to learn how to replace a washer.
first start by figuring out which side the water is coming from.(Hot or cold) by turning the shut offs under the sink off one at a time. Shut off the hot first then wait a few minutes watching it to see if the drip stops. Then turn the hot back and and shut off the cold. once you have that narrowed down, I gguaranteeits a problem with the cartridge. Whether its a gasket or a worn down seal it's easy and cheap to fix. Take apart the handle that's leaking and remove the cartridge by googling how for step by step instructions. (should take about 3-6 minutes.) Then run over to home depot and get a replacement. They usually have a book with all the different kinds so take the broken one with you. Don't let them sell you a repair kit. It's worth the extra few bucks to get a new one. Then take it home and put it back together.
