Question:

glow worm boiler problem?

Hi everyone,I have this glow worm compact 80p its a very old boiler , before It was perfectly fine and recently I have this problem which was of not having a hot water at all . I have been told by some plumbers that Its better to change the whole thing! , however one of them said that the problem as a result of a faulty fan and If I change it , it might require to change some other parts ! so I am really confused now . Please any advice if you know whats the cause of this problem

Answer:

To be honest, if you have got the money, buy a new one! The fan is a load of bull! The fan has nothing to do with the hot water! If you start changing parts on that then you will never stop changing parts. If you have the money get yourself a new worcester boiler! You never have a problem with them, as long as you get it serviced every year nothing will go wrong! But if you do want to change a part i would be looking more at the diverter valve if its a combination boiler?
+1 for diverter valve as Tom says. Service kits are still available, which include various 'o' rings, washers and (probably the culprit) the diaphraghm. The general state of the boiler should be assessed first though, as this may be the start of a steady
Hello...well if you have replaced the thermocouple and are sure you have installed it correctly then the next thing is the gas control valve. The thermocouple must be in the pilot light flame. When you fitted the thermocouple you must take care to make sure its fitted correctly...it depends on what type it is but most produce a small electric current which acts on a coil inside the gas control valve. It is important when fitting to make sure that you have not inavertantly earthed the output from the thermocouple. If you are sure you fitted it correctly then it looks like you need to replace the gas control valve. This is not too difficult but you must be aware that you cannot afford to make a mistake here. You dont want leaks. Obviously you are aware that normally this work would require a competant Gas fitter. With a leak it is quite possible to blow your house up, or worse someone elses...It might be expensive but maybe now is the time to call in a proffessional. Take care. Good Luck
