Have you ever been hoisted by your own petard?
Oh yeah, probably everybody that's not a liar has been hoisted by their own petard. The etymology of the phrase is most interesting too: The word petard comes from the Middle French peter, to break wind; from the Latin word pedium ... to break wind. Petard remains a French word meaning a firecracker (in French slang, it means a handgun, or a joint). The best way to describe the situation of being so hoisted is with the phrase gotcha, smartass.
