Question:

How do you bleed the air out of the brake system?

I have a 2000 v-star custom. I‘m changing the wire looms over every cable and have done everyone except the brake cable. How do you bleed the air out of the brake system after pulling the cable? How do you know when all the air is out of the system? I don‘t want to crash and die because I didn‘t get all the air out :)!

Answer:

use surringe and force fluid to brake caliper whole air will go with the flow back to the brake reservoir
Be forewarned, it's not a job for a beginner. There are a lot of variables that can cause problems, to many to list here. Search Y! Answers above to learn of all the difficulties people have. Watch some YouTube videos to learn the basic process.
Replacing the brake light wiring will not affect the brake system, it is only when you start messing about with the brake hoses that you need to bleed them. It is simplest to buy a kit to help with bleeding brakes, they range from a tube with a one way valve to a full-on pump. You are forcing the air out through a nipple on the brake caliper, open the bleed nipple about half a turn, attach a hose to the bleed nipple, the other end of the hose goes in a receptacle partially filled with clean brake fluid (a jar is a good receptacle) and pump the brake lever making sure that you do not run out of fluid in the brake reservoir, when no air bubbles come out of the nipple, do it up to the recommended torque and you are away. Obviously you test the system is working before riding at speed.
