Question:

How to service transmission?

How can i service transmission for a 98 chrysler sebring coupe lxi, 24 valve 2.5 liter. How much transmissiont fluid should be added. Tips? Extra info accepted thanks

Answer:

Contrary to popular belief, an automatic transmission does not need to be flushed. Don't let a mechanic fool you on this. Only service you can perform is removing the drain bolt to drain the fluid and then remove the bottom plate and replace your filter. Once done, install a new gasket and put in about 4 quarts of transmission fluid. Normally you would then have to bring your car to normal operating temperature, put it in drive with the brake on and then check your transmission dip stick for proper level.
I'm sorry but, it's a Hyundai. I dont know why this wasnt explained to you. Hyundais are terrible cars. Yes, they have a nice big warrenty but, what you dont realise is that warrenty repair is a tax deductable business expense for a manufacturer. There's a reason why they have a 10 year warrenty. You need to get rid of that car. You sho uld also check the forums on the car sites to make sure that your model year isnt one of the many that are prone to bursting into flame and exploding when they're in accidents. They recalled Elantras a couple of years ago because of this but, the Sonata problem wasnt addressed at that time.
i think they might have had a recall for this announced some time ago. if the problem can still be addressed by the dealer to be fixed under warranty, then go for it (but take it to a reputable Hyundai dealer cause some dealers can treat you like crap and make things worse). yes, to my automotive knowledge, the symptoms you mention sound a lot like a typical fuse problem. no worries then, it always happens to the best of us. my uncle's 06 sonata does not have this same problem, though, (strangely, but i am telling the truth). maybe hes just plain evil, lol. but seriously, though, its a computer-chip thing so dont try to work out the kinks by yourself and make the problem even worse. it needs to be handled professionally. good luck with the problem, i hope your Sonata keeps treating you well after its resolved, and no, Hyundais are not crap. the suckers that do call them that are only saying it cause they feel obligated to defend themselves of their regretful purchases of REALLY UNreliable crap (kraut-mobiles), or splurging thousands of dollars more on a car that can do no better (jap-mobiles). current Hyundai owners, on the other hand, are truly smarter.
check the tranny fluid. it should be bright red. if its on the browner side then replace along with the transmission filter if its serviceable. most transmissions hold 3 liters of fluid. for exact amount look it up on the owners manual
For proper maintanance it should be flushed by a service shop, it is usually around $65.00. It pressure flushes it and replaces ALL the fluid, while a drain and fill only get some. I hope that was the answer your looking for.
