Question:

Windshield wiper doesnt turn on?

I have a 1998 Nissan Altima GXE.One cold morning (about a month ago), my mom was going to use it and drop off my sister to school. The whole car was frozen, there was ice on the windshield, etc. She turned on the car to warm it up. I guess she accidently turned on the windshield wipers and they got stuck since the car was frozen. Now whenever one of us tries to turn on the wipers, they don‘t work. What do I have to fix/replace?How do I do it?Please don‘t tell me to bring it to a shopThanks in advance!

Answer:

crimsonsamurai is right, but confusing to read. Allow me to further explain what he said: 1) Check the fuse for the wipers. If it is good then. 2) Check the wiper arms (where they attach to the motors). Pull them off. Check to see if the splines on the wiper arms or the motors are stripped. Whichever part is stripped needs to be replaced (if applicable). 3) Turn the wiper switch on.do you hear it running? Yes? Check for linkage between the two motors. It may be disconnected. NOTE: This set up is not as common on newer vehicles as they were on older vehicles so it may not apply for your car. 4) Turn the wiper switch on.do you hear it running? No? The motor(s) is/are burned out and needs to be replaced.
