If a low water alarm goes off on a boiler, as an operator what should you do?

Answer:

shut off heat source add water restore heat source
Top the water up, my mums does that often.
Oh my, do not ever suddenly raise the water level, or you may die in a massive steam explosion! It depends how low the water level is... If its slightly low, the best way to fix that is to lower your firing rate, and SLOWLY start to bring the level back up. If your boiler is extremely low on water, shut the fuel off and get the hell out of there. Do not add water to a boiler that is extremely low on water and still firing. That water will instantly flash to steam and cause a huge explosion.
Raise the level as fast as possible to ensure boiler doesn't trip, but be aware of the shrink/swells, maybe you need your boiler master controller tuned? Check the instrumentation as your controller should be in auto, but if you don't trust auto take it in manual and raise level slowly. Good Luck! Guys - He said low level alarm, there is still a low-low level trip, you can add level safely.
