Question:

Im into RETRO decor.but I want opinions?

What do you think of chocolate grommet top curtain panels.black chairs with gold fabric ol orange or copper lamps.paint on one or two walls that is chocolate on top -- mustard gold at the bottom -- a black wainscoat heit stripe.trimmed with gold on both sides of the black.bookcase with copper doors.rug with circles.geometric storage.WHAT do you think????

Answer:

By retro do you mean the 80's? Grommet top curtains are definitely not Retro. As someone said, there's a lot going on. Orange was big in the 80's, but mustard gold will not complement it. What will be your neutral color? You need one because if this is a bedroom, no one will be able to relax in it. Orange is a high energy color. That's why fast food restaurants have used it so much in the past. Try using the orange as small pops of color, like in pillows and a lampshade. Maybe do the wainscoating in chocolate around the entire room with the black/gold stripe and go for something more neutral on top that would make your decorations stand out. You could even do copper with the black stripe and then repeat it on the doors of the book case. Geometric rugs are 80's. How about blocks of colors? We had one that was brown, rusty orange and cream.
I'm lukewarm on mixing black and chocolate, especially adjacent to each other on the same wall. Otherwise it sounds great. If you have the energy, I'd suggest you push the gold trim idea further. Maybe outline door frames and baseboards. I'd suggest you look at Art Deco interiors and see how they use metallic stripes, or exteriors for that matter. They have the kind of energy I think you would like.
ok. i've done the gold fabric on the seats and chairs and pillows with a copper gilt ceiling and copper gilt fireplace and copper gilt bar top (different rooms, but the copper and gold mix in each) and it looked absolutely smashing.everyone including an impossible to please client loved it. so i say go for it, the cool orange lamps may not please you so go with the copper. but then i am a bit of a copper freak.
