Question:

Is it true that vicks vaporub helps police cope with the smell of a dead body?

My brother in law‘s mother was found dead tonight. She was estimated to have been dead for about 2 weeks. Of course, he and my sister don‘t feel they are capable to go into her home, so tomorrow my mom and I are going to so we can get her paperwork (the will and life insurance info) and other belongings. Will vaporub help us deal with the smell??

Answer:

Absolutely. I know nothing about law enforcement, but trust me vick's vaporub is STRONG. And menthol is a very clean, refreshing scent, it will help clear your throat and head. Although the scent of a dead body is very strong, rub some vick's on your throat and even maybe a little bit right under your nose, and it will help a great deal. I'm sorry about the loss of your brother in law's mother. :( PS Don't go too heavy with it or you'll be coldddddd!
It will help a lot. It will not mask the decomp smell just help. Also wear polyester or old cloths. Polyester does not absorb the smell. Old clothes you can dump. If it is really bad back out and go to a hardware/home store and pick up a good respirator (about $35.) They do the best. Please do not believe anything Mr. Goodhi says. He is just a troll who uses my old Yahoo profile to justify his troll remarks.
I'm sorry for your loss. Yes anything with menthol will help. It may not completely hide the odor but it will help. You may also try stopping by your local hospital and explain the situation and ask for 2 medical masks to wear as well. Good luck and kudos to you and your mother for doing this for them in their difficult time.
