Question:

Is the flame on the pilot light on the boiler too high?

It was off and now I turned it on. At first there was a small blue flame, I adjusted the knob to where it says it should be and the flame got as bigger (its about as big as the flame on a stove set on high)Is it supposed to look like that or just a small blue flame?

Answer:

You really need to have your gas pressure checked but make a comparison to your water heater pilot light, the flame should be mostly blue and shooting directly on the thermocouple. It should look like a small torch. If the flame is large orange and wavy you need to remove and disassemble the pilot assembly and clean it with a small wire brush, or find a new one and just replace it. Work safe and turn off the gas and electric while repairs are being made.

If there is not any pilot adjustment screw on the pilot itself, then you rather could alter it on the gas valve. seek for a very small adjustment screw. If the top of the thermocouple is purple warm, that isn't something to rigidity approximately.
