Question:

Is there such thing as an alphabetical keyboard?

I was just wondering if there was such thing as an alphabetical keyboard as opposed to a qwerty keyboard. I know the reason why the typical keyboard is places as qwerty, and so on. If so, how popular are they? Where could I get one? I'm not going to, just to look out of curiosity.

Answer:

I've never seen one in the store but you can make one. All you need to do is re-map the keys on the keyboard, then pop off and rearrange the actual buttons (keys) to match the newly mapped keyboard. There are utilities in windows that will allow you to custom design your keyboard. Look in Control Panel - System - Hardware Manager
Most digital telephones have what amounts to an alphabetical keyboard think about it and what a JOY they are to compose messages on, LOL!
The original QWERTY keyboard was designed to actually slow down typists on manual typewriters. While you can get a program to re-map your keyboard to be nearly anything, there is another keyboard layout that is more efficient. Do a search for Dvorak Keyboard It supposedly increases typing speed by ten or more percent.
