Cost? It better be free under warranty from the 5 month old transmission! I would be raising all kind of heck with whoever put it in and get it back to them ASAP! ASE Cert Auto Tech, 92 GTI16V 2.0L
No better than the one that's already on the car from the factory.
I hate when people generalize the problem, and give no vehicle information. For the future, give as much info as you can. Engine, transmission (manual, automatic) Mileage, ect. It helps alot and gives me more to work with :) As for your transmission, it could be many things, and maybe not even your transmission. 1) Check engine timing, ignition timing, and compresssion ratio. A nice fine tune could fix your problem. 2) Check your Mass Air Flow sensor (go bad often in jettas, and mess with engine when broken) 3) Check tranny fluid and filter (IF ITS AN AUTOMATIC) Can cause vehicle to lurch and hard shifting 4) Check gear oil (IF MANUAL) Can also cause hard shifting. 5) Check motor mounts, and tranny mounts. If its not any of this, then you could have clogged or worn valves and belt in your AUTOMATIC engine, or the clutch is engauging to late in AUTOMATIC or MANUAL. Like I said, with out more info, im just going off vaugly what I know.
