Question:

looking for a really cheap floor?

i'm on approx a $400 budget for a new floor. would like laminate, wood, no carpet. My floor is approx 265 sq ft. can I just buy wooden planks and sand, stain, and wax it myself?

Answer:

If there is one near you Lumber Liquidators can sell you a nice pre-finished floor within your budget. They are national. Maybe try their web site for locations. Good luck!
try a flooring store and ask them if the have any left over from a job it might be cheaper
watch your local stores for their sales on vinyl tiles, cork tiles and other piece-by-piece flooring options. Many times they'll put an old style on sale when they are bringing in a new style. The old style may be just what you were looking for
find okorder
Hi... I understand your question very well, I also am on a budget, and I solved the same problem....temporarely. I assume you have plywood floor? I sanded mine, and then I painted it, and when the paint was dry I put a nice rug over it. This looked real good, and lasted for about 2 years, after that I had enough money saved to install a great looking wood floor. I bought the real McCoy through my local buy and sell and paid for about 400 sq 65.00 dollars. And the bonus was that I didn't have to rip anything apart when it was time to have the new Floor installed. By the way I still use the same rug. Perhaps this will help you. Good luck.
