Question:

Males preforming ECG on female patients?

So I am considering becoming an ECG technician and I am wondering if as a male I will be working with female clients. I feel as though some might feel uncomfortable with a male working with them so was a bit curious.

Answer:

I'm not entirely sure but I'm 24 and have had about 5 ECGs and and echo and they've all been performed by women. This is in the UK though! I think if a man were to do it you'd need a female member of staff in the room anyway for the patients and the male technicians safety so they just send women to do ECGs on other women.
I don't think it would really matter. People will say something if they were to feel uncomfortable. There are doctors for all sorts of things that are both male and female. Sometimes women prefer males. It really just depends on the person. Look at gynecologists and OBGYNs. Some women feel more comfortable with doctors who are men for this positions.
