Question:

Pallet Expander?

I'm on my way of getting braces, and I have to wear a palet expander. Its been almost a week (on Tuesday it will be a week) and my Mom will stop turning it. But while I was eating it came off, I popped it back in but it's loose. Is it a good thing, meaning it expanded or should I talk to my orthodotist?

Answer:

I got the expanders three months ago. You will get used to it. At the beginning is hard to talk and you salivate a lot. Get the water jet to clean the food that get stuck up there. You will be fine in about a week or two.
Food and drink gets stuck or discolors your teeth there, it can not be helped. That is an inconvenience that goes with the treatment, or product/appliance.
AHAHAHAH im sorry for laughing but i must say it is funny. I was you about a month ago. I still have my pallet expander on and my talking is much better. When i first got it put on i was so scared i couldn't eat, drink, talk, etc. for about a week. Now i can talk normally and eat and drink. And get this i went to the ortho. this morning and he took it off because i broke it, and it actually felt weird having it off! I was amazed because i was about to kill someone when i first got it put on and now im actually so used to it that idk what im ganna do when i get it off.
it is going to hurt? no, but you will feel very tight what foods should i eat? soft for the first few days is my speech going to be different? yes is it going to hurt after i get it? moderate pain is expected for the first few days. houston dentist Minh Nguyen, D.D.S,
I had that and I know what you are going through. Try to drink more liquid type foods until you get used to it and can talk easier. You aren't going to prevent food from getting up there. Just rinse your mouth with water after you eat. You can also go to Wal-Mart and get a water pick. They sell it where they sell the electric toothbrushes.
