Question:

Purification of copper via electrolysis\electroplating?

In purification of copper via electrolysis, the impure copper is made as the anode, with a pure copper as cathode and a copper sulfate solution. I can understand how copper from the copper sulfate will be added to the pure copper, but my book also says that copper ions from the impure copper moves to the cathode as well?? How does this happen? Please give me a simple intuition and a well explained answer. 10 points for best, thanks!
