Question about air and/or hydraulic suspension systems?

I read that Telsa has a ‘air‘ suspension option. And I read that another car, different company, has a ‘hydraulic‘ suspension option. When I read about suspension options on the internet for every-day cars, it involves a pump and the ability to raise or lower the vehicle. Most are manually-controlled, the higher-end cars offer automatic control. Like raising the car to go over speed bumps. What I do not read anywhere on the internet is what these new ‘automatic‘ suspension systems do for normal daily DRIVING. Can you handle curves faster? Turn corners faster? Automatically raise/lower the car, depending upon what is ahead of you? Or is this just a pricey gimmick? I think that the existing knowledge of suspension, like bigger sway bars, and so on, would work just as well as the pump-controlled air or hydraulic systems. But I am possibly wrong.I know nothing about these new systems. Any one have any knowledge or thoughts?

Answer:

The cars with automatically adjusted air ride suspensions do several things. If several people get into the car,the additional weight load is gonna make the car get closer to the ground which could cause issues. The auto suspension raises the ride height back to normal when weight is added. It also helps with aerodynamics on the highway. At 60-70 mph the car will automatically lower to create less wind drag(for gas mileage amp; safety)A manually controlled air ride suspension allows you to set each corner of the car at what you perceive as the perfect ride height or stance. You can also raise the car to compensate for added loads. It can also be used as a theft deterent because you can let all the air outta the bags amp; pancake the car(car is so low to ground amp; tires are so close to inner fenderwell that the car can#x27;t be moved or driven)Air rides main 2 incentives are a smooth ride and perfect ride height for any occasion or situation. They run several thousand dollars but are well worth it
Cars with air bag suspensions have a smoother ride, and they still have anti-sway bars to control body roll in turns. There are also air bags you can add to a car or truck to make it handle additional weight, like when towing a trailer. Hydraulic suspensions in cars are for these guys who like to raise or lower the car for show purposes, or to make them bounce up and down. These idiots actually have contests to see who can bounce their car the highest. Cars with hydraulics have a VERY rough ride, as there is NO travel in the suspension, but these dummies don't seem to care.
you use a coupler and sweat them together with solder
If part of your daily driving is on a rough road, and another part is on a smooth freeway, and you have an adjustable suspension, then you are free to press buttons to make it softer on the gravel, and stiffer on the freeway. And for the few folks that enjoy track days, there may be a Sport Mode or Track Mode that gives the stiffest suspension and best handling for a racetrack course. If you don't have adjustable suspension, then it will always be stuck at a moderately soft setting for most cars. Or if you have a car set up for competition racing, then it is optimized very stiff for the track and hurts your back to drive on an average road. Original Shelby mustangs for example were literally a pain to drive, they were built for the track, not for the street.
