Question:

Smoke alarms going off for no reason?

We have smoke alarms that occasionally go off in the middle of the night. This never bothered us before but now we have a baby and she cannot be consoled for at least an hour after this occurrence. When the batteries are low, the smoke detector will beep with increasing frequency as the battery get weaker. So I don't think it is a battery problem. So has anybody experienced this? All of the alarms will sound for no reason it seems especially at four in the morning.

Answer:

Rubber guards are used for bits such loose rings to prevent pinching at the corner of the mouth, you do not really need them for a d-ring. No point buying things that you don't need or don't know the use of for that matter.
Bit guards do not protect the horse's mouth from a mutton-fisted rider. The only protection from hard hands is to learn to ride properly. Hard hands are an avoidable choice not an unavoidable handicap and you owe it to your horse to seek help in improving your hands I do use bit guards but only because my big boy needs a 6.5 JP snaffle. Unfortunately bit makers don't seem to understand that a big horse can go well in a snaffle so it's virtually impossible to buy a 6.5 snaffle off the peg. I had to have one made at enormous (to me) cost and when it came it was slightly too big for horse so I use rubber bit guards to adjust the fit. I certainly would never use them to correct a fault in my riding.
If he's riding it on a public street, he's probably documenting it before he complains. It's lawful. Funny you're more concerned with him recording it than with the kid riding a public roadway with insurance, registration, and likely without a license. But then, that's what you were really worried about, having the violations taped.
They stop pinching but with a D ring won't do much good, all you need is more training not gadgets. You said you get lessons on school horses and not Tango since you can't get him there right now but what's the point in taking lessons when you still can't ride your own horse? If you can't take what you learn at the stable home then taking those lessons is a waste of time. We are in a recession right now and a lot of people are desperate for work so trust me it wouldn't take much effort to find a good, dedicated trainer to come out and teach both you and Tango. ADD: there's no magic cure for bad hands, I saw a video of you riding Tango way back in June or July with awful hands, you've had months to improve them.
Ok, why do you want to waste money on something you don't even know anything about? Maybe save your money on training, which you desperately need.
