Question:

sub floors?

I want to replace my hardwood floors..My sub floor has some weak spots. Can I put a new sub floor over the top of the exsisting hardwood floors and put new floors over the new sub?I hate to have the mess of ripping up the old stuff. I know I will need to have the doors resized because this will raise my floors.

Answer:

3!! What does this guy think you are going to use for flooring? By doing what you suggested, your floors would be 1 1/2 higher. But I do agree, that it probably isn't a good idea to just cover over a potential problem.
your sub floor also runs under the walls . your better off with the mess and do it right .just keep your mess neet , don't bite off more than you can chew . Keep ! A Backup Plan . in case you need help to finish . you may as well only replace the week areas . older floors may take some thought to match up .
Ok first of all.Even if you DO go over the old floor with new.Its only going to raise the floor a max of 1 1/2 Still a big pain in the butt bc you're right about resizing doors. How about this approach instead.Find out whats making those parts of the floor weak.My guess is that you need some more bracing underneath. If you do determine that is the wood then just cut out the weak parts and replace only those sections.
this would raise your floor around 3 inches. not very good idea. What is the problem weak spots in the subfloor? Covering the problem may not be a good idea either - depending on what you mean. Some things need to be fixed from the bottom up or you will have more problems.
