Question:

transmission rebuild?

94 bonneville de p0740 ttman transmission gives $2450estimate????

Answer:

WOW, that is crazy expensive, are they going to buy you a brand new OEM transmission and chrome plate it for you? Just buy a used one online and have a different shop put it in. You can find good used transmissions for a few hundred, try to find a low mileage one with a warranty if possible, they should be a dime a dozen.
Check around, yellar pages, ask buddies ect. I found a guy that has his own shop paid $650 for a chevy overdrive automatic. Good Luck !
That is about the correct price for a transmission rebuild including installation and labor with a decent warranty in a front wheel drive car. You can, however, likely beat that by $1500 or more using a junkyard tranny and a local side jobber. But here's the thing.a P0740 is a torque converter clutch circuit error I believe. An error in a circuit does NOT mean you need a transmission. There many MANY pieces that play into a transmission circuit and for me to give any suggestions is PURELY speculation, but I would advise you that the torque converter clutch solenoids in these vehicles live a pretty tough life and give up the ghost eventually. Replacing a solenoid is not necessarily cheap as it can be a bit involved to just get to the part, but it sure is cheaper than a transmission. What you need to do is take it to a place with a good reputation, a knoledgable tech, and probably somewhere that has access to a higher end generic scan tool or better yet, a GM Tech II scan tool. Seeing the that computer is commanding the converter to lock up while seeing that it is indicating an unlocked condition gets you a lot closer to a cheap fix.
