Question:

Transmission will not shift?

1997 town and country transmission will not shift out of second gear, shifting to drive 3 or low while driving are the same it‘s if trasmission is stuck in second gear, park and reverse work fine, also check eng. light came on

Answer:

The transmission computer has gone into limp in mode. Something has caused a fault code to be set, and the computer will not allow the transmission to shift. It may be something as simple as a defective sensor (the output speed sensors are known to be a problem, or it could be a more serious problem with the transmission. You could try disconnecting the battery, counting to 100 and reconnecting it. This may clear the codes and the trans can then shift again (until another fault is detected) A computer scan will tell you what is setting the code, and the repairs can them be made!
i work on alot of them .do not get talked into replacing ,now, but u need to replace the shift solenoid which is attached to the front of the trany
