use desktop speakers instead of laptop speakers?

i plugged in desktop sterreo speakers into my laptop, turned up the volume, but no sound goes. the sound only goes through the built in laptop speakers. the desktop speakers are much loudedr and has more bass, so how do i use it instead of the laptop speakers? is there a software that i can download. i've tried everything but i came up with no results pls help me? thnx guys

the computer speakers probably need power from the wall. make sure all the plugs are plugged and in correctly. also check to see if headphones work. if the headphones don't work then there is something wrong with the computer
