Question:

Using clothing dye as a cheaper, easier, longer lasting, conditioner-free alternative to semi-perm. cream dyes?

I really like Special Effects hair dye, i've been using it on my hair, I have fairly long, fairly new(not yet mature, only had them for a month) dreadlocks which i want dyed a dark, strong indigo/purple color. They already have been, with a mixture of Special Effects Wildflower purple and Punky Color Violet, but i dyed it before i backcombed it, i don't know how i would go about dying dreadlocks, especially since they're still pretty new and thus kinda delicate, I'm afraid the conditioners in the dye might make the knots in the dreads come out, and also i'm short on money and have a lot of hair, the dye bottles are really small and expensive to buy in large quantities, and i think it'd be easier to dip/soak them in some sort of liquid dye, without conditioners, that's not 15 bucks for just a tiny bit. Something like what they use to make tie dye t-shirts, you know? Would this be safe for my hair/difficult/and where would i find it to buy it?

Answer:

Maybe your mom realizes that your sister is an adult and she can't make her do anything anymore. And with that realization she just tries to accept it because she realizes she can't change it! She could *****, complain, and whine at your sister which will probably only damage their relationship. We may not like what your sister does, but it is HER life and HER decision.
Your mother probably does not approve. She is most likely hoping that this will not last long. Trust me, no mother wants her daughter to be a stripper. Your mom probably just wants to support her daughter, and since she is expecting this not to be a life career, is afraid to potentially distant herself if she tells your sister she does not approve. Tell your sister that you care about her, and offer to help her find a more ethical job. Tell her your concerns. Most likely she'll get defensive and will not listen to you. Then, you just have to let her do her thing, but you can also tell her that if she ever wants to talk, you're available. Other than that, there's not a lot you can do.
Silicone is prolly your best bet for such a project. However, if you have to actually 'eat' the food, I'd try using small mirrors angled against one another, sort of a mirror chamber. You can buy really cheap mirrors at the 99 Cents store or Dollar Tree. Good luck with your project :)
You aren't going to like what I say, but I think you should mind your own business. She is grown and she is not you. Love her as a sister should and be there for her when she needs you. Remember, she is not your daughter, you can't control her. Also, who is to say that you have the right to judge her? There are a lot of women who do the best they can with what they have. I think you should be proud of her.
Sadly, your mother and sister are not as morally strong as you. You seem to have a clearer understanding of what is right and wrong and it bothers you that this is going on. Keep your sense of morals, and don't sink down into their thinking. You are a good person.
