Weird question about quartz?

I was watching a kind of cheesy Scyfy show called Warehouse 13. They collect magical or just strangely powered artifacts and get them out of the general public.Anyway one of the shows had them go to a prison where there are always a lot of suicides and the prisoners seem to hallucinate a lot. It turned out that the prison was built on top of an old quartz mine. It said that when electrically charged, quartz rings with a frequency that can make people have very realistic hallucinations. Does this have any truth?

Answer:

Both quartz and sand are crytalline materials, meaning they have a lattice structure and there is a definitive difference between the solid and liquid phases ( a meltining point). Glass, in contrast is amorphous, or noncrystalline. It can be described as a VERY viscous liquid. It doesn't have a defined crystal structure, even when it appears solid. Hope this helps.
