Question:

What is a spindle system?

i was looking to buy a spindle system 4 inch lift for a 1990 2wd chevy silverado i was just wanting to know what is the diffrence in a spindle system and a suspension lift and any other info would help thanks

Answer:

The spindle lift changes out the spindle/axle component. If you place the original unit next to a raised height spindle the axles will be lower in comparison on the new spindle. It is called and offset. I raises the car by lowering the axle center line. A suspension lift raises the distance between the body and the suspension usually by taller springs.
well with a new spindle the offset will be lower or higher in your case higher
The other posters are correct in what what a spindle system is. I just needed to put my two cents in. On a 2WD truck, I'd highly recommend doing this with a spindle system. It keeps everything on the supension in it's proper place. On a 4WD, I'd discourage useing a spindle kit on a '90 becuase they have axle shafts on the front and with a spindle system, it'd change then operating angle of the shafts too much, creating extra wear and tear on the bearings. On 4WDs I recommend body lifts instead. Since we are talking about a 2WD though, I won't even go into a detailed explanation on why. Long story short, go with the spindle system on a 2WD up front. Your cheapest and easiest out for the rear is just to use leaf spring blocks and longer U-bolts.
