Question:

What is the best paint for concrete basement floors?

I have a newly constructed basement (less than a year) which is being used for wine storage. Its too humid. I am adding ventilation and have treated the floor with a moisture barrier. Now I want to paint the floor.

Answer:

For a concreate floor you first need to do an acid wash to pretreat teh floor for painting, otherwise the paint will not adhere tot eh floor. Then you should get a paint that is designed to be used for basement floors.
Take a look at Rustoleum Epoxy basement floor covering. We have the same product on our factory at work. VERY durable with foot & forklift traffic. It looks a lot nicer than a coat of paint. Also you might want to consider putting something on the walls. Since your basement is so new your not to certain if it will leak down the road. Another product to look at is Drylok.
Firstly, a question - what do you mean by vapor barrier - if you mean a concrete sealer, I think you will need to remove that first. I have successfully used polyurethane floor paint available in a variety of colors from True Value Hardware Stores. Good luck!
This is probably too simple of an answer. Concrete paint. That's one thing places like Home Depot and Lowes are good at helping with. I've had them drop the ball on other more complicated questions, but they seem to give good advice on paint.
I Have Painted shop floors with the wrong paint enough times that now I KNOW. Use Rustoleum floor paint 2 part epoxy. Preparation is a must. Pressure wash the floor. then etch it with muriatic acid then wash it again. (Vacuum it up with a wet dry vac)Next you need to dry it I used a portable salamander heater with a piece of flashing to deflect the heat down. When you are 100% sure it is dry paint itwhile the floor is warm. I used this method on a shop floor the only way paint comes up is with the concrete attached. Every other thing anyone has ever sold me or told Pealed up.
