Question:

what is the black gunk in my bathroom sink drain?

It eventually accumulates to the point that the drain gets backed up, draino doesn't really help. We have to take the whole stopper part out and pull out the gunk. It doesn't happen in my other sinks.

Answer:

A rather unpleasant answer, but here goes. What goes down your bathroom sink drain is known as "Grey Water". It consists of water (naturally), hair, soap, shampoo, dead skin, shavings and other nasty things. Your bathroom sink drain is most probably slower to empty than your actual bath, hence the "gunk" is not flushed away. To alleviate the problem, obtain caustic soda crystals, take out your plug, pour as much crystals as you can into the drain, leave overnight if possible, the water in the u-bend will be enough to start the crystals working. Rinse through with hot water in the morning, job done. NB, treat caustic soda crystals as toxic and strong alkaline, take precautions as regards eyes, hands etc, and ensure all the soda has gone before using the sink. You may have to do this more than once, but it does work.
It's crud. Crud= any solid particles that go down your drain and then are held together by wet sticky liquids or glop. Hair, skin flakes, makeup powder, food particles from teethe brushing, tooth brush bristles which are all gumped together by sticky stuff like, tooth paste, saliva, face oils, face creams and hand soaps.
Your sink is probable ok, basically a sprint grimy The black stuff is cleansing soap, grease, hair and whatnot. bypass down the hardware and get a "plumber's helper" it fairly is a component like a tremendous rubber suction cup on a quick look after. called a "stress cup" or plunger. See the gizmo with the purple rubber cup interior the source. advantageous and much less costly and reusable. place the cup over the drain and carry it there jointly as you run a sprint water into the sink - no extra beneficial than a million inch (2.5cm) deep. Push the look after up and down till the blockage eases. while it starts off to empty, upload a sprint extra water and shop doing it. as quickly as the drain is working ok, put in a sturdy shot of laundry detergent and warm water and bypass away it there a jointly as, in one day could be sturdy yet an hour or so is wonderful, then use the cup returned to clean out something that has loosened. in case you employ the plunger each and every now and then the drains will stay incredibly plenty clean.
