Question:

What is the difference between lead crystal and quartz crystal? Which makes the prettier beads?

I am asking from a beader's standpoint, not a scientist's, but would still welcome answers about composition, formation, and so forth if you know such things. Links to this info would also be appreciated. Knowledgeable answers only, please. I already know one is made from quartz and one has lead in it.

Answer:

Quartz is a mineral, not a rock. Sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic are rock classifications. While there are some minerals that can be associated with either metamorphic or igneous processes, quartz is too abundant to be specific to one rock type.
quartz itself is found to be most prevalant around areas which have had hydrothermal activity or exterely high pressure sedimentary deposits. rose quartz is not a specific mineral. its quartz with an attched iron oxide molecule which gives its color
