Question:

What makes ripples on a dirt road?

wherever you go ijn the world, on dirt roads you get ripples. They seem to be always the same spacing. what is the reason for them?

Answer:

Dirt roads require about the same speed of driving for all travelers in order to be comfortable and safe. Most tires are about the same size. So with the forward rotation these two factors decide how far the particles churned up will travel be for settling again, so all the ripples are about the same distance apart.
yeah doubt its antilock. the old beater 85 s10 at my work does it. it seems to do it a few times even when it dont rain, i think just from the cold air. only does it the first few times braking.
They grate them with a machine to make them smooth.
You can get ripples from a variety of things. When the wind blows it will cause the sand to move causing ripples. If there was a rain storm, than when the puddle Drys it will leave ripples from the drying water. A ripple will occur when there is any irregular disturbance to the loose surface.
Grease, oil and dust could be the cause. Regardless your brakes need to be inspected and repaired.
