Like Peter said, it is hard to believe for Seven dollars you got more than a common Quartz crystal. However, it may be cheap it still has wonderful characteristics about it, and I'm sure still looks beautiful. If you were to post a picture, It would make Identify the stone easier. (I do see you are apologizing for not posting this, but you have no need to say sorry, it does us no harm.) I hope I helped. :) Good luck!
The only other thing they would be selling for that price is Glass. You either have a chunk of glass or quartz.
Just hearing gift shop I can tell you it's a glass crystal. Quartz can conduct electricity. Do an electrical test. If you have a multimeter that'll be easy. The meter won't move if it's glass.
