When a bulldozer is leveling a area and there are flags or grading markers, what do they mean?
Probably keep out or watch out or caution or something similar.
Grading is based on survey of elevation.. How much to Fill or Cut at a location.
Previous is correct that marking flags or stakes indicate limits of excavation (or fill) and height or depth of cut. Most modern machinery is being adpted to employ GPS accurate flags and markers so excavation equipment is becoming very automated and extremely accurate.
The flags are usually one foot above the disired grade.a mark or a second flag will be at grade in a fill area.In a cut area the flags are set a predetermined height above grade and that elevation is above final grade.That elevation is known by the dozer operator.
