Question:

when wiring car speakers.. does the thickness of the wires matter?

do speakers function better with thick or thin wires??

Answer:

The wiring in your car audio system is very important. The higher the gauge of wire you choose to use the less resistance will be placed on the amplifier or head unit (which have internal amplifiers). This means more power to the speakers and ultimately more quality sound. It depends on the wattage of the system to determine the appropriate gauge of wire but as a rule the bigger the better. I would recommend getting a good quality speaker wire. Good speaker wires use the most conductive metals for the wire material, such as copper. They feature thick jackets that wont wear through from rubbing and vibrations. Choose a good 16-18 gauge wire from a company like Streetwires. Dont cheap out on your speaker wire its an important part of your installation.
well thicker wire is best especially if you have amps and subs, you can go to walmart, autozone or advanced autoparts and buy speaker wire, you can buy a roll of it, it'll say speaker wire on the roll, but stock speaker like 6 1/2 or 6x9s only need the thinner wire but you'll need the thicker speaker wire for subs and amps
thicker wires for sure because the bigger wire carries more juice 2 ur speakers....if ur wiring amps use 6 gauge or bigger if ur wiring speakers us at least 16 gauge but don't go much bigger than 14 gauge cuz it gives too much juice to regular speakers
It depends. If you are just gonna wire the speakers and just play it with mid volumes or normal operating volumes. these wires weather thick or thin doesnt matter. but if you want to push the speakers to it's potential, you need a good quality wiring kit. mostly these are guage 4-8 wires or thick wires of course thicker wires more current it can handle .
