Question:

Why do sleep though my alarms?

This is getting to be a serious problem for me. I literally have five different alarm clocks that all go off within minutes of each other. I sleep through every one. What can I do to make myself wake up in the morning?

Answer:

Don't do either. Give them to someone who would really appreciate them. Many schools would happily accept your donation. The feeling you get would be much better and longer lasting
Man I can relate to the vision loss part! Of all the things I have lost in my life, I miss having 20/20 vision the most! Hard wired smoke detectors are really quite simple. If you are replacing them with the same brand there is a very good chance the adapters don't need to be changed. They are however made to plug in one way only. Feel the end of the adaptor and then the socket on the smoke detector. It will only go in if it is aligned correctly. If you need to replace the adapters, pay attention to the colors. Black is hot, white is the neutral and the red wire is the interconnect to other detectors if present. It is not a ground!* If you don't have a 3rd wire between the detectors, just cap off the red and tuck in the back of the box. * on a service call one time I found that the Landlord had installed his own detectors to save money. He didn't Read the Instructions! He connected the red to the ground which rendered the detectors useless! In the event of an alarm, the instant the power was passed to the red wire it would have resulted in a dead short and tripped the breaker about 1/2 way through the first Be I chewed him out in as professional a manner as I could.
If you need ask about this for your safety have it done by an electrician.
