Question:

Why does my cat chew on plastic???

I don't get it. Is there some significance? Is there some reason? He'll just sit and gnaw on the toilet paper plastic or a plastic shopping bag or other plastic packaging...Why do cats do that?

Answer:

My does that too. Another however just pee on any plastic that he come across!
I don't know but my cat dose the same thing. I've always said she has strange taste buds. She turns her nose up at most cat food brands and human food and eats plastic.
Well, my cat does it too and we thought it was weird. We thought it was because of the noise. We thought it was because it was fun. But we knew it was bad if they ate it. So we researched it. Turns out that plastic has a type of catnip in it. YES! Catnip!! They are drawn to it because of its taste/smell. Many cats do it, but some just aren't interested. It's safer if you make sure your cat cannot get to the plastic. We eventually had to get garbage cans with the lids on them because one of our kitties learned to dumpster dive! haha. It's Walmart's free toy for your cats XD Hope this helped!!
Not all cats do that hun. Your cat does that, mine just thinks he is human. I've given up trying to find out why they act so weird. I think it's just his taste. Humans are no different if you think about it. Some people love the smell of rubbing alcohol or even gasoline. Some people eat dust. Likewise, some cats like to bite the walls, others, like yours, bite plastic. The only reason I can think of is he bites plastic because cats are just weird and love the attention. Perhaps he's noticed you give him more attention wen he is doing that.
My cat doesn't chew on plastic, but he licks the living daylights out of it! Just this morning, I woke up to the sound of crinkling plastic, only to find that he had stuck his head through the plastic bag handle, and couldn't get it off his head -_- I'm worried to leave him alone with plastic bags, now, because what if he strangles himself!! Gotta keep an eye out. Anyways... I've read before that cats like plastic, or at least the plastic of plastic bags, because it mimics a cat hormone. That's why they're drawn to it. I'm not sure if it applies to all plastics or not, but hopefully it gives you an insight! ^_^
