Why is blast furnace in reduction of iron ore internally lined with bricks?

Answer:

it keeps the furnace from melting
they are not just regular bricks, they are fire bricks, they are made to hold the heat in,and not let the melting iron out.but even they have to be changed out on a regular bases.hope this helps
They are special Fire Bricks which can withstand very high temperatures. If you have ever seen inside a blast furnace, you will see that without them the walls of the furnace would buckle with the heat. I have observed inside a furnace when a load of scrap metal has been dropped into it, and the blast of air in the furnace is so strong that the metal is floating in the air.Thats about 5 ton of metal.
