Question:

Why is my spooky chair creaking?

I bought a kitchen table set about 2months ago and for some reason every night it starts to creak. i looked around the chair trying to find a cause but sure enough it was coming from a leg of one of the wooden chairs i took the leg off and noticed a crack in the leg, the creaking stopped immediately. i put it back on and every night since it starts to creak first one creak every few mins to one creak every second. i tried to think of explanations like maybe a bug burrowed in the leg but that's not it. then i thought maybe air pressure or something but then why is it always at night and why is it in a pattern either two, three, or fours creaks then a pause then two, three, or four more. this is so weird someone help

Answer:

Actually if you stick with the ghost sitting in the chair idea, you could make a fortune off that thing. It's actually the chair leg straining against the rest of the chair on which it's installed, which is kind of boring. When you shove the chair leg into the chair-leg hole (sorry, don't know the technical names) and then shove the cross-piece in at that other spot, it creates tension which holds everything in place. Those creaks are actually the sound of subtle little 1/1000 of a millimetre movements as the wood tries to move back to its natural tension-free state. It's just like when you coil up a spring and leave it coiled. Sooner or later, it's going to release some of that tension however it can. You only hear it at night because that's the only time you can hear it. You would hear it through the day, but in the daytime there is too much background noise from everything else that's going on. Same thing with all those creaks and groans in your house: It's quieter at night so you can hear each little sound better.
ghoists or the house settleing dont be afraid though most spirits are harmless but ifyou got a bad one get an exorcist imediatlly
Get rid of the chair it is haunted. Just kidding I bet it's just a manufacturing error, you should call the company and explain the situation, be stern. They should refund you. :) or you could get it checked out by a priest if you are worried it is haunted ^_^
That's creepy. Do you know where it came from (if it belonged to someone first)? There could be some story behind it, and some bad spirit is attracted to it. I would return it.
