Question:

will a new exhaust system use more gas???

im looking to buy a exhaust system that increases my hp and wont sound ricerish on my 03 Eclipse GT Spyder. so maybe staying away from a catback exhaust. maybe a Borla or Injen. what kind would you recommend? and also a question i have about exhaust systems in general. would aftermarket exhausts cause the car the use more gas?? in other words lower mpg.thank you for your help

Answer:

Borla is definitely high quality. I've got a Borla catback exhaust on my '06 3.5 v6 Malibu and it sounds Porsche-esque. The only drop in fuel economy I've experienced is from me loving to put the pedal to the floor and listen to it.

An after market exhaust can increase fuel economy if you don't change your driving habits. The increase would depend on how restrictive the stock system may be. As far as not sounding ricerish, maybe look for a chamber muffler, like dynomax or flowmaster. They should produce a low rumble. The best bet might be to talk to someone at your local exhaust shop, and ask them what they would recommend. They could likely give you a few clues at how to make your car sound how you want it to.
