Question:

Windshield wiper issue - 2003 Mercury Sable?

One wiper (the driver's side, of course) has stopped working all together. Everywhere I search, it tells me to check the fuses. Is it possible that the wipers have two different fuses??? I'm guessing it is not the motor since one wiper still works. I have also tried tightening the bolt that holds the arm on, but this didn't help. Any suggestions? I don't even know where to find the fuses. Any info will be greatly appreciated as it is Sunday and I doubt I will find anyone to fix it today. Also it is starting to snow so wipers are a must. Thanks!

Answer:

If one wiper arm operates when you turn on the switch your problem has nothing to do with fuses. With the wipers turned off grasp the suspect wiper arm and attempt to move it through it's normal stroke. If you can easily move the wiper arm it may be stripped out. Tightening the fastener will not help this situation. It will need to be replaced. Remove the wiper arm completely and then turn on the wipers. Observe the suspect wiper drive stud.is it moving? If it does, try to grasp it with a pliers.you should not be able to stop it with moderate effort. If you can stop it or it does not move at all there is a problem with the mechanical wiper linkage inside the cowl. You'll need a competent mechanic to repair that.
The wiper transmission is broken
The wiper motor is working. If the linkage isn't working, you basically hear the sound of the wiper motor. If the wiper motor isn't working, examine the fuse first, then the wiper motor. Wiper motor ought to final the existence of the motor vehicle. i alter my wipers earlier, so as that it may accomodate a better length on the motive force area. I did some experiments and it artwork. I had comparable to quickly as I did my experiments with my wiper. the explanation is i'm attempting to set the wiper palms that I forgot to screw the nuts on. Your passenger area nut is loose. you need to screw it tight. some autos you need to open the conceal to uncovered the nut. in case you notice a demonstration on the hollow below the wiper arm once you bumped off it, this is malicious application out, then you certainly ought to replaced the wiper arm.
You still can not ride it on the street anywhere or on the side walk any public thoroughfare in the US.
