Question:

Would a transfer cable transfer files/data other than the files I need?

By other files/data, I meant cookies and stuff that made my old laptop very slow.I'm getting a new laptop and I would like to use a transfer cable to transfer all of my old files to the new laptop, without the junk of course.

Answer:

Unless the cable you purchase came with software to migrate user data, the transfer will only happen by you selecting files to move between the systems. You'll have to select the files and copy those to the new machine, it isn't automatic (unless you get some software to do it for you and then it depends on what the software is designed to move).
You need to define what you mean by transfer cable and if you are going to use software to transfer your applications and files from one machine to the other. There are companies that provide usb to usb and other similar cables that allow you to copy all files, programs, etc from one machine to another machine. It really depends on how they do this if cookies, temp files, etc will be copied over. Many allow you to choose what you want copied. On a side note, cookies do not slow your computer down.
Yes, it WILL transfer that information if you're copying everything from your documents folder. HOWEVER, if you do NOT copy the following location, you shouldn't have any issues. C:Documents and SettingsYOUR NAMELocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files Just a little note.most people who are transferring files and don't know better are going to select MY DOCUMENTS. Unfortunately, this copies everything you don't need/want over.
You can transfer data files. That means you can transfer music, video, photos and documents etc. You can also transfer your Documents and Settings if you want, thereby tranfering the profiles. But I would not suggest that. You can create new profiles on the new computer. Junk and cookies won't be tranfered if you don't want to.
Cookies have little effect on the speed of your computer, try running a defrag(defragmentation: a program that improves access time on your hard drive by bringing fragmented files physically closer togethermeans less searching). Open 'My Computer, right-click your C: drive, select 'Properties', on the tools tab select 'Defragment Now', click 'Defragment'. And no, unless you use some kind of software the cable will only transfer the files you select.
