Question:

Would aluminum nails rust????

What is excatly aluminum nails???Is it corrosion resistant???What does it have???

Answer:

Aluminium is a chemical element and metal. Aluminium nails would be nails made of this elements. Corrosion/rust is the contact of metals with oxygen (another chemical element and part of the air around us), the process is alled oxidation. The best example is the metal iron reacting with oxygen from the air and the result would be rust. (it works better with water as ths contains more of the element oxygen). The surface becomes reddish-brown and briddle, more oxygen can penetrate the metal and in the end the piece of metal breaks, it rustes away. Alumumium does react withs oxygen but only on the surfcae, in common language you could say its rusts. The surface than looks greyish. But in comparison to iron this forms a protecting layer on the surface of the aluminum, no oxygen can get deeper and the aluminium stays stable. That is one of the reason airplanes are made of a very pure aluminium. They should not rust.
Electrolysis can happen to aluminum if it comes in contact with other metals. It gets an aluminum oxide caused by oxidation. An Electrolysis is the binding of two metals cause by oxidation. Most nails are made of galvanized metal or stainless steel. The galvanized stuff will resist corrosion but will corrode. The Stainless steel can rust but usually lasts longer. For out doors aluminum works best.
Yes and No. Aluminum will very readily react with Oxygen gas to form Aluminum Oxide (the rust of Aluminum). However, unlike Iron Oxide, Aluminum Oxide forms a protective layer on the Aluminum metal which prevents further oxidation. Bare Aluminum metal will develop this protective Al2O3 coating and stop oxidizing, unlike Iron which, when it rusts, will eventually corrode down to just Fe2O3 powder.
Aluminum Nails
Aluminum nails will not rust or corrode. They are primarily used when shingling a house for that exact reason. They are very light weight as well.
