Question:

Your stereo has a 2-amp fuse. What happens when a power surge?

Causes 3 amps of current to flow to your stereo? Why is this a good thing?

Answer:

If there is a 3 amp surge the fuse would melt, instantly stopping the current before your stereo is damaged.
I would think that if it had a 2 amp fuse, then 3 amps would fry your stereo. If you took out the 2 amp fuse and you got a 3 amp surge, then it is a good thing that you will have an excuse to buy a new stereo!
The sudden surge of 3 amps causes the fuse to burn out breaking the circuit. This stops the flow of electrons (current). Breaking the circuit protects the electronic components of the stereo by preventing too large of a current from passing through them.
