ok i have a 1500 avalanche the 5.3. i want to put a cold air intake on it from kn and a cat back dual exhaust from flow masters. how much more power would i get, would i save gas, better pick up and is that a good match? should i go cat back or take off the cat? im in louisiana and dont know the law. i want a nice roar from pipes though.
As David says, most fatalities on fast bikes are single-vehicle accidents. Other than that, a vehicle can run a red light and hit you, which might be fatal in a car too. Or just fail to see you because their brains are looking for cars, and pull out of a side road in front of you, of fail to make allowance for your speed and not leave enough gap. If you are alert, you should hopefully be able to find a gap and miss them, or brake in time. A bit harder in bad weather. Touch wood, I've never been hurt to notice, but I had a couple of those in my first year or 2 of riding I think I would have been able to avoid with more experience - one guy learning to drive suddenly did a U-turn in front of me, and I panicked and locked up the back wheel, and another time a guy pulled out from the side and then stopped across my lane. (be careful on the back streets there's more unmarked junctions, more kids in the road - in the country you might meet horses, or a flock of sheep, or a load of mud .)
avalanche is a v6 right? Intake maybe 5hp, if the exhaust is less restrictive probably 3-4hp (estimate). Cat backs really do nothing on most cars.the most restriction is at the cat(s). Based on the weight of your vehicle you probably won't feel too much; maybe if you floor it. Don't take the cat off unless you live in a state that doesn't have visual or obd checks otherwise emissions is going to be a nightmare. But NO you won't save gas unless you lean out your fuel map. Flowmasters sound too tin-ny.the best brands to buy for just about any application are BORLA and Magnaflow (if you want rumble). GMPP might have something for your car. But honestly.without replacing your headers and the cat with a high flow one you're just wasting your money. It's your money do what you want.
The only accidents I had riding motorcycles where the ones caused by motorist who didn't see me and one who stalked me for three block before ramming me in a fit of road rage. And speaking from personal experience - do not cheap out on the helmet and protective gear. In the incident where I was rammed my helmet was totally destroyed when I made a one point impact with the pavement, and I walked away from it.
