Question:

1963 Copper Nickel?

I have a 1963 nickel that is copper in color. There is also no mint stamp on it. It did not fade much like pennies do but has a shine to it almost like a new penny would. Can anyone tell me what I have?

Answer:

You have a 1963 nickel that has been plated in copper or possible a very thin layer of gold. It is a nice novelty item but that is all it is.
Nickels are made out of copper and nickel, it probably sat in water a long time and had the copper get leached to the surface. Not all US coins have a mint mark, coins from the Philadelphia mint for a long time had no mint mark. It's worth a nickel. Jim
