I bought a brand new looking Dodge Power Wagon 318 for $1500, what a steal. I am wanting to make it a project truck to show up all the mexicans with their fancy little cars that show off a lot. Any ideas on how to upgrade this truck. No lie, this truck looks brand new. Everything is great condition, and the engine has 52,000 miles on it. The man that sold it to me, is a great family friend but thats a different story. But any ideas? Please I wanna make this a beast, even though it already is. I wanna make it stronger. Has 2 gas tanks, new shocks, I need new tires though. running i think 16.5s on there right now. Rare tires and wheels I know. :(
You have a fine truck and I congratulate you but it's not a race truck and will cost $$$$ to make it so. The 16 1/2 inch wheels mean it's a 3/4 ton and with a 318 it has adequate power for its intended use but not for stop light drags or carving corners. The power wagons were large, heavy and about as aerodynamic as a small barn door. It probably has 3.91 or 4.10 gears under it so you're top speed is already limited by that. Nothing short of a slightly modified big block will give you the torque and horsepower you want and that will mean the transfer case will suffer. I suggest you keep it pretty much stock but enhance the breathing of the engine, a good dual plane intake and headers with true dual exhausts will be bolt ons and do not necessitate going into the engine. If you can't outrun them you can always run over them.
