Question:

1998 Ford Transmission Problem?

When i am driving gear 2 or 3 seems to not catch properly. The RPM‘s will just rise and the car is not accelerating. Does this mean i need a whole new transmission? Can anyone help?

Answer:

If its a standard transmission, then no, your clutch could be sticking and just need a new clutch. If its an automatic transmission, its going out, im sorry. It should cost around 900 to 1300 to get it fixed.
have u ever change the clutch plate inside ur transmission.when u press the clutchit will pull the clutch plate inside n let u change the gearn it should be change according to ur usagetry change it.n got u change ur gear oilit should be change around 40000kmit will let u change the gear smoothlytry it
The possible problem could be: 1. The setting of the clutch pedal is too high. 2. The pad of the clutch disk is worn out 3. Pressure plate doesn't have the correct pressure.
you must partially remove the disk, then it will push out of your way and allow removal of the half shaft.
