Question:

2000 mustang transmission?

Can you switch out a 2000 mustang transmission v6 to the mustang v8 transmission and what would be the differences

Answer:

the engine has nothing to do with the transmission. its all about the number of gear ect: 4 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed. and axle ratioand the gear ratio.
The 1994-04 Essex 3.8L/3.9L v6 Mustangs used the T5 5 speed trans which shared the same bellhousing pattern with the older 5.0L/5.8L small block Ford engines. The 1996-01 GT Mustangs(v8 Mustangs) used the T45 5 speed trans which has been coupled to the 4.6L modular engines. The bellhousings are not the same and that makes them incompatible. Generally, the transmissions used on v8 Mustangs are made with stronger internals and will usually be geared a little differently as well but even the v6 Mustang transmissions have been known to hold up just fine to v8 power so I wouldn't be too concerned. Also, the v6 transmissions are geared a little lower than their v8 counterparts to help make up for the lack of power in the v6 so you would actually hurt your acceleration if you were able to switch to the v8 trans anyway.
